It is with great sadness that we lost an amazing and talented artist on October 10, 2016. George Lee Crosby was a truly brilliant man and painter. He spent many years in Provincetown and painted many of the landmarks we have come to know and love that were near and dear to his heart. We miss his rebellious character, quick wit, and opinionated sattire... all of which lent itself to his beautiful creations. A prolific artist with the fervor for capturing the moment. Thank you George for sharing your art with the world.
The artist George Lee Crosby has been painting / exhibiting in Provincetown for over 45 years. He studied at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and the Cooper Union in NYC. In 1971 he spent the summer studying with Henry Hensche, while painting pastel portraits on the street. He has shown his paintings with many galleries here and his work is included in notable collections. With over thirty years experience as an illustrator in NYC, he has also worked around the world notably in Tokyo and Mexico City.
A native New Yorker, he resided in Blue Hill, Maine where he maintained a studio and gallery. George spent his winters in Key West and Cuba where he also had gallery representation. His dream was to sell his property in Maine and reside in Cuba.
